ABUJA: The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially opened its online student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, giving eligible students the opportunity to apply for government-backed financial support to fund their education.
According to a statement released on Tuesday via NELFUND’s official X (Twitter) account, the application window will run from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026.
The Fund expressed appreciation to tertiary institutions nationwide for their cooperation and urged continued collaboration to ensure a seamless and inclusive loan process for all qualified students.
As part of the procedure, all accredited institutions are required to upload verified records of both newly admitted and returning students to the NELFUND Student Verification Portal, a step described as crucial to validating applications and ensuring transparency.
In its guidelines, NELFUND noted that fresh students can apply using their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a Matriculation Number, while schools are encouraged to show flexibility with registration and fee deadlines for applicants awaiting disbursement.
Tertiary institutions that are yet to begin their 2025/2026 academic session were advised to submit their approved academic calendars to NELFUND to facilitate scheduling and processing flexibility.
NELFUND appeals to all institutions to consider temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are being processed, ensuring that no student loses access to education due to financial challenges,t he statement read.
