Politicians, transport stakeholders, socialites and residents of Mushin, Lagos State, are mourning the death of Chief Taoreed Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado, who died at the age of 83.
Faronbi died in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026, according to reports.
Until his death, Baba Alado was the Olori Ebi of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin, and held several traditional and commercial titles, including Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom and Babaloja of Aswani International Market.
For several decades, he was a prominent figure in Lagos grassroots affairs, with interests spanning politics, transportation, real estate and community activities.
His family announced his death on Saturday, while his remains were subsequently buried according to Islamic rites. Family members, friends, residents and prominent community and political figures attended the funeral.
Among those who paid their last respects were Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Tunbosun Aruwe, and Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Dr Oluseyi Jakande.
Baba Alado was also a prominent figure within the National Union of Road Transport Workers, where he was regarded as a leader.
Reacting to his death, NURTW National President Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, expressed sadness over the loss.
“Baba Alado was a man who made his mark, and whose name will remain remembered by many,” MC Oluomo said in an official statement.
He added that Faronbi’s contributions, relationships and presence within the transport and community space would not be forgotten.
Beyond his involvement in transportation and grassroots affairs, Faronbi was known as a prominent Lagos socialite and maintained relationships with leading figures in the entertainment industry.
He was celebrated by notable Fuji and juju musicians, including K1 De Ultimate, Osupa Saheed and Alabi Pasuma.
Faronbi was also involved in land development and real estate. His activities in the sector, however, occasionally became the subject of legal and communal disputes.
His death has since generated tributes from political associates, transport stakeholders, entertainers, socialites, community leaders and residents of Mushin, who are remembering him for his decades-long presence in Lagos social and community life.
