A once-admired Lagos couple, Ezekiel and Omolara Inyang, are now embroiled in a messy and highly public divorce battle that has captivated public attention with disturbing claims of abuse, deceit, and emotional trauma.
The couple, who tied the knot four years ago in what was seen as a faith-driven union rooted in Christian values, are now separated and openly airing their grievances through social media, interviews, and podcasts.
The feud gained prominence when Omolara, 29, appeared in a widely viewed episode of the podcast Talk to B, hosted by Nollywood actress Biola Adebayo. Tearfully, she accused her estranged husband, 35-year-old Ezekiel, a former youth pastor at Deeper Life Bible Church, of infidelity, physical abuse, and emotional neglect. She also alleged that his family contributed significantly to her suffering.
Among the most harrowing claims, Omolara said she was assaulted by her mother-in-law just days after giving birth via Caesarean section, leading to a spinal injury diagnosed as lumbar spondylosis.
She also accused her sister-in-law of deliberately serving her allergenic food in an attempt to poison her.
I’ve been living in pain ever since. I now take daily injections, and after being rushed to a hospital in Qatar, doctors told me I had just nine months to live. That was five months ago.
Omolara stated that her husband initially refused to let her and their twin daughters join him after his job transfer to Qatar, eventually relenting after persistent pleas. But she said life worsened there.
She alleged that Ezekiel continued abusing her, neglected the family, and had affairs with multiple women, including housemaids. Her health deteriorated further, culminating in a hospitalisation where, she said, he refused to even check on her.
The doctors said I had pyelonephritis, an infection in my kidneys made worse by a lack of medical care, she said.
Omolara’s mother, Mrs. Adeyanju, described Ezekiel as a manipulative man who psychologically tormented her daughter. He called himself a pastor but treated us with complete disrespect, she said.
However, her father, Olusola Akinbiyi, blamed Omolara and her mother for the failed marriage. Now estranged from his daughter, Akinbiyi shared messages in which he described her behavior as monstrous and said he had to resign from his job after she and her mother petitioned his employer.
She has turned against everyone, including me, he said. I thank God Ezekiel was able to walk away.
In response, Ezekiel dismissed all allegations and described Omolara as manipulative and deceptive. I married the devil, he said tearfully. I supported her through all her health crises, yet she made my life unbearable.
He denied ever being violent and claimed she concealed her health history before marriage. He also accused her of opioid addiction and infidelityclaims supported, he said, by messages he found and testimonies from her classmates in nursing school in Qatar.
I have videos of her injecting herself, he alleged. She’s addicted to painkillers and now blames me for her health issues.
His mother, Mrs. Glory Inyang, also denied claims of assault. She pushed me away with her attitude,” she said. She told me she was mad, and now I believe her.
A nurse at a Lagos hospital where Omolara was once treated disputed her account, calling her a “pathological liar.” According to the nurse, Omolara never had lumbar spondylosis and allegedly used her story to gain public sympathy.
“She owes the hospital money and begged me not to reveal her lies,” the nurse said.
Former neighbours on Palm View Estate, Arepo, gave mixed accounts. Some described the couple as peaceful and quiet, while others, including their former landlord, accused Ezekiel of neglect.
There was a day she collapsed, and I had to take her to the hospital and pay the bills,” the landlord said. Later, she often came to beg for money to buy food. Ezekiel is not the man he pretends to be.
As the accusations fly, it’s clear this is more than a marital fallout. It’s a deeply fractured relationship with multiple layers of family conflict, health crises, and mutual distrust—all unfolding in the public eye.
Efforts to verify Omolara’s medical condition with Hamad International Hospital in Qatar were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
