LAGOS ADVANCES 26MW EMBEDDED POWER PROJECT FOR IJU-AKUTE WATERWORKS …Stakeholders inspect equipment ahead of delivery of 9MW first phase

The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen electricity supply to critical water infrastructure with the ongoing development of a 26-megawatt (MW) embedded power project to provide dedicated and reliable electricity to the Iju-Akute Waterworks.

As part of efforts to ensure the timely delivery and quality of equipment required for the project, key stakeholders recently inspected power-generating equipment supplied by Jubaili Bros Nigeria for the Akute Independent Power Project (IPP), being developed by Agrigate Utilities Limited to power the Iju-Akute Waterworks.

The inspection was undertaken to assess and verify the equipment ahead of its delivery and deplo

yment for the first phase of the project, which is expected to generate 9MW, while subsequent phases will increase the total generation capacity to 26MW.Speaking during the inspection, the Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, underscored the strategic importance of the project to the State’s water infrastructure and urged all stakeholders to ensure its timely and successful delivery.

He emphasised the need for accountability, collaboration, adherence to specifications and agreed timelines, stressing that the project must translate into sustainable value for Lagos State and its residents.

The Commissioner noted that reliable electricity supply is essential to the effective operation of critical public infrastructure, adding that the embedded power project would contribute to the sustainability and reliability of water services in the State.

The Chief Executive Officer of Agrigate Utilities Limited, Mr. Olufemi Bakare, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, project partners and other stakeholders for their support towards the implementation of the project.

He acknowledged the challenges associated with delivering the project within a relatively short timeframe but noted that the commitment and collaboration of the various stakeholders had continued to drive progress.

Bakare reaffirmed Agrigate Utilities Limited’s commitment to delivering the project within the agreed timeframe and providing the technical support required for its effective and sustainable operation.

Also present was the Chief Operating Officer of Agrigate Utilities Limited, Mr. Lotu Akingbe.
Representing Jubaili Bros Nigeria, the Head of Commercial, Mr. Mohammed Farhat, and General Manager, Mr. Ahmed Dahshi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supplying the required equipment and technical services for the project.

They highlighted the company’s experience in the power sector and commitment to ensuring that the equipment meets the required specifications and performs efficiently and sustainably.

The General Manager, Lagos State Electrification Agency (LSEA), Engr. K.A.T. Balogun, also participated in the inspection, alongside Engr. Agiri Mustapha, Director, Production, Engr. Olusaya-Stella, Director, Power, and other senior officials of the Lagos State Government.

The project, being implemented in collaboration with relevant Lagos State stakeholders, is expected to provide dedicated electricity for the Iju-Akute Waterworks, thereby supporting the State’s efforts to improve the reliability and sustainability of essential water services.

Following the inspection, arrangements are being advanced for the delivery, installation and deployment of the equipment for the first phase of the project.

The successful implementation of the 26MW embedded power project is expected to demonstrate the role of dedicated power generation in supporting critical public infrastructure and strengthening Lagos State’s electricity development efforts.
