Kano Governor Defends Garo’s Emergence as Deputy

KANO: Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has justified the nomination and confirmation of Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor, stating that the decision was based on merit, competence, and his track record of service.

The governor made this known during the 39th Executive Council Meeting held at the Government House in Kano, according to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.

Yusuf explained that Garo emerged from a pool of nominees after careful consideration of their past performance, experience, and potential contributions to the state’s development.

We tried as much as possible to select someone who can provide matching contributions toward the development of the state,” the governor said.

He added that the selection process involved evaluating candidates’ previous roles and their capacity to deliver in the current administration.

Describing Garo as a seasoned politician, Yusuf expressed confidence in his ability to support the government’s agenda and deliver meaningful impact.

The nomination followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, whose exit created the vacancy.

Governor Yusuf had subsequently forwarded Garo’s name to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

The Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, swiftly approved the nomination a move the governor commended.

He noted that the prompt confirmation demonstrated the legislature’s commitment to governance and stability in the state.

Yusuf disclosed that the swearing-in of the new deputy governor would take place soon, urging stakeholders and residents to support him in delivering on his responsibilities.

He also congratulated the newly appointed Head of Service, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, praising her previous contributions as Director and Permanent Secretary.

The governor called on civil servants and relevant stakeholders to rally behind her to ensure success in her new role.

During the Executive Council meeting, Yusuf was presented with 39 awards of excellence from various organisations, both within and outside the state, in recognition of his administration’s performance.

One of the recognitions included a symbolic gift of ₦30,000 from a primary school teacher, who commended the governor’s efforts in improving the education sector.

Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering development across key sectors, emphasizing the importance of teamwork within government.

He maintained that the choice of Garo reflects a broader strategy to strengthen governance and accelerate progress in Kano State.

The appointment comes at a critical time as the administration seeks to consolidate its policies and enhance service delivery to residents.
