A former teacher at Colonial Christian School in the United States has been sentenced after admitting to an inappropriate relationship with a teenage student.
Torrie Lemon, 24, pleaded guilty in Indiana to one count of child seduction, a Level 5 felony, and was sentenced to 40 days in jail, followed by nearly four years of probation.
The case involved a female student who was 17 at the time of the incidents. Court documents showed that the inappropriate relationship allegedly took place at multiple locations, including school premises, class trips and the student’s family home.
The matter came to light during a school trip to South Carolina in April, when another student reportedly saw messages on the teenager’s phone that suggested an intimate relationship between the two.
Following the discovery, Lemon was immediately removed from the trip and later confessed to investigators that she had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with the student.
According to court records, the pair initially became close through conversations about personal issues and later developed a relationship that both reportedly tried to keep private.
Authorities said the former teacher had also stayed overnight at the student’s home on several occasions. The student’s father reportedly knew they shared close physical contact but did not alert authorities because he did not want the teacher to lose her job.
Lemon, who has since been dismissed from the school, is also expected to face sentencing on two additional child seduction charges filed in a neighbouring county in suburban Indianapolis.
