The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Anietie Iniedu as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.
Iniedu’s appointment was announced on Friday in a statement issued by the outgoing Force PRO, Anthony Placid, who confirmed the leadership change within the Force Public Relations Department.
Placid, who assumed office in March 2026, has now been replaced just a few months after his appointment, marking a swift change in the police communications leadership.
According to the statement, Anietie Iniedu is a seasoned police officer with extensive experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, and administrative duties.
He hails from Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo. He has also undergone several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, human rights-based policing, cri
Before his new appointment, Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated public complaints and promoted transparency and accountability within the police system.
He has also held several strategic positions across different commands, including:
- Public Relations Officer, Police College of Information Technology, Ogun State
- Operations Officer, Maisandari Division, Yobe State Command
- Area Crime Officer, Umuahia Area Command, Abia State
- Staff Officer, IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters
- Second-in-Command, 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Kubwa
- Officer-in-Charge, Force Headquarters Situation Room
In these roles, he was involved in coordinating security operations, managing intelligence flow, and supervising national crime reporting systems.
The Inspector-General of Police expressed confidence in the ability of the new spokesperson to strengthen the Force’s communication strategy.
According to the IGP, Iniedu’s experience will enhance public engagement, improve transparency, and support ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment is expected to boost the Police Force’s strategic communication efforts at a time when public trust, accountability, and security reforms remain key national priorities.
