I Will Contest 2027 Presidential Election, Peter Obi Assures Supporters

UYO: Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has assured his supporters of his readiness to contest the 2027 elections.

Speaking in Uyo during the OBIDIENT Conference and official declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), themed Activating the PO Effect in ADC, Obi urged Nigerians to join him in rescuing the country for future generations, who, he said, will bear the consequences of decades of poor governance.

Obi alleged that the Federal Government does not want him to run,but insisted he would contest even if the elections were held figuratively in their bedroom.

He criticised the current administration for accumulating more loans than any previous government, warning that most of the debt would only be repaid between 2045 and 2050

On leaving the Labour Party, Obi explained: Democracy must work. I left the Labour Party after being informed that INEC would not recognize its leadership as long as I remained.

The Federal Government doesn’t want me on the ballot, but I assure you I will contest the upcoming election.

If they refuse to transmit results, we will transmit them ourselves. Obi emphasised that Nigeria must get it right in 2027, calling for election results to be transmitted online in real time.

He also promised that his administration would prioritise education and healthcare, noting that intentional investment in education has been a driving force behind the success of many great nations. He vowed to fight poverty to reduce criminality.

The former Anambra governor said he would tour the entire country and visit higher institutions to understand challenges on the ground.

Those joining me in this ambition must prioritise the future and well-being of the people, he added.

On corruption, Obi stated that a leader and their family must have nothing to do with it to significantly reduce the menace.

He cited his own tenure as governor, where he refrained from personal gain despite approving over 100 Certificates of Occupancy of government lands.

Speaking to supporters, Tanko Yunusa, coordinator of the Obidient movement worldwide, urged Nigerians to mobilise for the 2027 elections and channel their efforts through the ADC as the vehicle for transformation.

Ben Smith, the Akwa Ibom State coordinator, called for unity, warning that divisions would derail the dream of a new Nigeria.
