Gov Oborevwori Warns Contractors on Substandard Work, Confirms November Rollout Of New Minimum Wage

 

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State pledged on Sunday to blacklist contractors who fail to meet the standards outlined in their project specifications, as per the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation.Speaking at the 70th birthday celebration of Chief (Mrs) Roseline Amioku, the Delta State Civil Service Commission Chairman, in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Osubi, he emphasized the commitment to quality infrastructure across the state.
Oborevwori reaffirmed that his administration would consistently monitor projects, urging contractors to adhere strictly to project standards to benefit the state. He warned that contractors delivering substandard work would face blacklisting, reiterating the state’s dedication to providing high-quality infrastructure without financial delays.
We are paying our contractors; projects are ongoing, and we haven’t borrowed in 16 months. We will not need loans this year, by God’s grace,” he added.

Addressing the development plans for Warri and nearby areas, Oborevwori assured residents of his administration’s focus on revamping infrastructure in these cities and expanding efforts statewide.

The governor also addressed the new minimum wage, confirming that payments had begun and that all eligible employees would receive theirs by Monday. Oborevwori extended gratitude to Delta residents for their support, urging them to be self-reliant where possible, as the state faces fiscal pressures with over 80,000 employees, including teachers, local government workers, and the state workforce, relying on government wages.

Oborevwori warned against salary payments to employees residing abroad, calling it unjust and promising corrective action. It is unacceptable to be abroad while drawing a salary here; it’s an act of dishonesty we will not tolerate,” he stated firmly.

Finally, the governor congratulated Chief Mrs. Roseline Amioku on her 70th birthday, commending her contributions to the Delta State Civil Service. “On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Delta State, I celebrate Chief Mrs. Roseline Amioku on her milestone anniversary,” he concluded.
