UYO: Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the release of ₦3,909,182,952.65 for the payment of 2026 Leave Grants for civil servants in the State, in a further demonstration of his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and improved conditions of service. This was contained in a press statement signed and released by the state information Commissioner, Hon. Aniekan Umanah.
The approval forms part of the Governor’s sustained efforts to improve workers’ welfare under the ARISE Agenda, with a focus on ensuring that workers receive their entitlements and enjoy better conditions of service.
The 2026 Leave Grants for civil servants will be paid in three tranches, beginning in September, with subsequent payments scheduled for October and November.
The phased disbursement will provide financial relief to civil servants while ensuring an orderly payment of the approved funds.
In another major workers’ welfare intervention, the State Government has made further payments of outstanding gratuities, bringing the total amount paid so far to ₦97,037,963,737.16, out of the ₦111 billion gratuity backlog inherited by the administration.
The continued settlement of outstanding gratuities reflects the administration’s determination to improve the welfare of workers and pensioners and progressively clear legitimate obligations owed by government.
The latest approvals and payments further underscore the administration’s sustained focus on workers’ welfare and the strengthening of critical sectors of the State, in line with the people-centred philosophy of the ARISE Agenda.
The State Government assures workers, pensioners and the people of Akwa Ibom that it will continue to implement policies and programmes designed to improve the working environment, strengthen public institutions and enhance the wellbeing of citizens.
