Frustration Dey Everywhere — Peter Okoye Fires Back at Critics Telling Him to Retire at Almost 50

Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has responded to critics who urged him to retire from music because of his age, insisting that he has no plans to step away from the industry.

The controversy began after an X user identified as @OloriOfOloris suggested that the former P-Square member should leave the spotlight due to his age.

I don’t get why an almost 50-year-old man is still singing like this. It’s okay to retire the fan wrote.

The comment sparked mixed reactions online, with media personality Do2dtun coming to the singer’s defense. He argued that age has nothing to do with relevance in music, citing international stars such as Beyoncé, Shakira, Lionel Richie and Bruce Springsteen, who are still actively performing despite their age.

Reacting to the criticism, Mr P dismissed the remarks, saying some people were simply looking for reasons to attack him.

Thank you very much, my brother!

No be me increase fuel price for Naija. Frustration dey everywhere, but somehow na Mr P dem wan blame, he wrote.

The singer recalled some of the criticisms he had faced over the years, including claims that he could not sing, only knew how to dance, stole songs and lacked talent compared to his brother.

According to him, after those narratives failed, critics switched to attacking his age.

After dem realise say all those narratives no hold water, dem come with another one: Now he is too old to be singing and dancing.’ Meanwhile, na the same people go celebrate and hype Usher, Beyoncé and Chris Brown for doing exactly the same thing, he stated.

Mr P also expressed satisfaction with his solo career, describing it as one of the best decisions he has made.

He disclosed that he had signed a multi-million-dollar five-year deal with an international distribution company, which includes the release of three albums.

As for this solo journey? It’s one of the best things that has ever happened in my life, and I honestly don’t care what anyone thinks. Nobody can stop this movement. The train has left the station. It’s Mr P Forever!

OG FOREVER drops this year, and we’re just getting started! he declared.

His latest comments underscore his commitment to his solo music career and make it clear that retirement is not on his agenda anytime soon.
