LONDON: Arsenal moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4–1 at the Emirates Stadium, with summer signing Eberechi Eze delivering a sensational hat-trick in his first North London derby.
Leandro Trossard opened the scoring midway through the first half, controlling a pass before curling his finish into the far corner.
Arsenal doubled their lead soon after when Eze fired a powerful right-footed strike from the edge of the box.
Just 35 seconds into the second half, the England international struck again, drilling a low effort past the goalkeeper to hand Arsenal firm control of the match.
Tottenham pulled one back when Richarlison caught David Raya off his line and scored from distance Spurs’ only shot of the game at that point.
But Arsenal restored their three-goal advantage as Eze completed his hat-trick with a composed finish, becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in the North London derby in nearly five decades.
The victory takes Arsenal to 29 points from 12 matches, with nine wins and the joint-highest number of goals scored (24), level with Manchester City.
Tottenham, meanwhile, drop to ninth with 18 points after suffering their fourth defeat of the season.
Arsenal travel to Germany next where they face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, before returning to Premier League action at Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea next weekend.
