ADO-EKITI: Ekiti State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, has said the ongoing governorship election could emerge as the most peaceful and credible in the state’s history, citing the massive turnout of voters and the professionalism displayed by electoral and security officials.
Speaking after casting her vote at Polling Unit 003, Atiba/Aafin Ward 1 in Ikere-Ekiti on Saturday, Afuye praised residents for turning out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights, describing the development as evidence that Nigeria’s democracy is steadily maturing.
She also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere and maintaining neutrality throughout the process.
According to her, reports from various local government areas indicated similar levels of enthusiasm among voters, which she attributed to the intensive campaigns carried out by the APC ahead of the poll.
You can see how people came out in large numbers and are eager to participate in the election. Similar reports are coming from many towns and local governments. This shows that our democratic culture is improving and that the campaigns we embarked upon yielded positive results, she said.
Afuye urged politicians and their supporters to adhere strictly to electoral guidelines and sustain the peaceful atmosphere until the conclusion of collation.
I must commend INEC and the security agencies. They prepared well for this election. Nobody is being intimidated, and if things continue this way, this poll may become the best election Ekiti has ever witnessed, she stated.
The deputy governor, who is running alongside incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji, expressed confidence that the APC candidate would secure victory, insisting that his administration’s performance had earned him widespread support across the state.
Governor Oyebanji has served Ekiti with dedication and commitment. He has performed excellently, and I am confident that he will win this election with a comfortable margin,” she said.
The June 20 governorship election will determine who governs Ekiti State until 2030, with voters across the state turning out to choose among candidates from different political parties.
