ASABA: The Delta State Government has suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), Izeze Reuben, indefinitely over allegations surrounding the recent assault of the Governor’s aide, Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.
The suspension takes immediate effect and is intended to allow security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The state government announced the decision in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Eze Emu.
According to the statement, the allegations against the commissioner are connected to an incident at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, where Mudi was reportedly attacked during a political gathering.
Mudi, who serves as a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Protocol, was allegedly assaulted and beaten during the altercation, sustaining injuries in the process.
The circumstances that led to the incident, as well as the identities and roles of those involved, are now being investigated by the relevant security authorities.
The Delta State Government said the decision to suspend Reuben was necessary to ensure that the investigation could proceed without interference.
It stressed that the suspension should not be interpreted as a determination of guilt, but as an administrative measure to allow the appropriate authorities to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The government reiterated its commitment to public safety, the maintenance of law and order, and the protection of human life across the state.
It also emphasized that these principles apply to everyone, including government officials and institutions of the state.
The incident has attracted attention because of the political gathering at which it reportedly occurred and the involvement of a serving state commissioner and a senior aide to the governor.
The security agencies are expected to establish what led to the altercation, determine the circumstances surrounding Mudi’s alleged assault and identify any individuals found to have participated in the incident.
Until the investigation is concluded, the Works Commissioner will remain suspended indefinitely.
