The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has launched a scathing criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as the worst government in Nigeria’s history.
Baba-Ahmed also warned that northern Nigeria would suffer severe consequences if Tinubu secured a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
The PRP chairman made the remarks during a broadcast interview while assessing the state of the country under the current administration.
According to him, the government has become increasingly disconnected from the everyday realities of Nigerians, particularly over economic hardship, hunger and insecurity. The North will be finished if Tinubu wins in 2027. He’s the worst President ever in the history of Nigeria. The problem is the disconnect between the government and the people,” Baba-Ahmed said.
The PRP chairman particularly faulted the administration’s response to concerns raised by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria during a recent meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to Baba-Ahmed, the bishops used the meeting to draw the President’s attention to the difficulties confronting Nigerians, including hunger, insecurity and economic hardship.
He said the bishops were in a position to understand the conditions faced by ordinary Nigerians and expected the government to take their concerns seriously.
Catholic bishops went to the President. These are highly respected people. He must have thought that it would be a good outing for him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t even have agreed to meet them, he said.
Baba-Ahmed claimed the bishops told the President that Nigerians were dissatisfied with the direction of the country and were struggling with rising hardship.
“They went to him, politely said to him, Mr President, the people are not happy with you. They are hungry. They are insecure. There are a lot of problems running in the country,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed criticised what he described as the government’s reluctance to acknowledge the difficulties being experienced by citizens.
He argued that a government should be willing to listen to credible voices raising concerns about the condition of the country rather than dismissing their observations.
“For every issue the bishops raised, the President said, no, you are wrong. I am right. There is no hunger in this country, what you are saying is not true,” he said.
The PRP chairman said the growing gap between government pronouncements and the experiences of ordinary citizens could have serious political consequences ahead of the 2027 elections.
He warned that northern voters, in particular, should carefully assess the performance and policies of the Tinubu administration before deciding how to vote.
Baba-Ahmed’s remarks add to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition figures increasingly scrutinizing the performance of the Tinubu administration and mobilizing support for alternative political platforms.
The President and his supporters have, however, continued to defend the administration’s economic reforms and policies, arguing that the measures are designed to strengthen Nigeria’s economy and create a more sustainable foundation for long-term growth.
