The Delta State Government has carried out a pre-handover inspection of the DSC Roundabout Flyover in Effurun, as the project nears completion.
The inspection, conducted on Monday, was led by the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, alongside senior government officials and representatives of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the contractor handling the project.
Speaking during the inspection, Izeze said the visit was aimed at assessing the quality of work completed so far ahead of the final inspection and formal handover to the state government.
He disclosed that the flyover construction is about 98 per cent completed, noting that the contractor invited the government team to review progress and identify any outstanding issues before final completion.
According to him, officials inspected the project from the Agbarho end through the Effurun axis and expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of work observed.
He added that the government expects the project to reach full completion before the final handover.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Barrister Val Arenyeka, highlighted the economic significance of the flyover, particularly its potential to improve transportation of agricultural produce from rural farming communities to urban markets.
He noted that Delta State remains a major food-producing region, citing large-scale vegetable farming in Orerokpe, cassava cultivation supported by processing facilities, and expanding rice farming activities in Aviara, Isoko South Local Government Area.
The Governor’s Executive Assistant on Project Monitoring, Mr Tuoyo Abigor, confirmed that only minor finishing works remain, including installations such as street lighting, which is being handled as a separate component.
He added that the flyover is already open to motorists and is expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and boost economic activities across Effurun and surrounding areas.
The DSC Roundabout Flyover is regarded as one of the state government’s major urban infrastructure projects aimed at improving mobility and supporting economic development in Delta State.
