ASABA: The Delta State Police Command has arrested the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects in connection with the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.

The development was disclosed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement issued on Monday night.

According to the police, the arrest of Ashibogwu and the three other suspects brings the number of people currently in custody over the case to five.

The police said the suspects are being questioned as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.

While confirming the arrests, the Delta State Police Command said it had intensified efforts to locate two other individuals considered important to the investigation.

They are Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, identified as the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, the driver attached to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.

The police said the presence of both individuals is required as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

The Command urged the two persons to report to the police without further delay and cooperate with the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel E. Erale, assured the deceased’s family and members of the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, impartially and professionally.

The police commissioner also stressed that anyone found culpable would face justice in accordance with the law.

The Command said due process would be followed in determining what led to Adeda’s death and pledged that the investigation would not be compromised.

The Delta State Police Command also expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased as the investigation continues.

The Command said its “heartfelt condolences” go to Adeda’s family while assuring them that investigators would work to establish the facts surrounding the case.

The latest arrests come amid growing public attention over the death of the senior education official and calls for a transparent investigation.

For now, the police have not disclosed the specific allegations against each of the five people in custody, while the investigation remains ongoing
