ASABA: The All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council has appointed Hon.Dr. Anthony Emeka Elekaokwuri as the campaign coordinator for Ika North-East Local Government Area in connection with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s bid for a second term in office.
The appointment places Elekaokwuri, a grassroots politician from Umunede in Ika North-East Local Government Area, in a coordinating role for the governor’s re-election campaign within the locality ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Elekaokwuri is a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, where he represented Ika North-East Constituency for two terms. His legislative experience and longstanding involvement in the state’s political landscape are among the key aspects of his background as he assumes the new campaign responsibility.
He is also known for his close political association with Governor Oborevwori, the incumbent governor of Delta State, whose administration is seeking to consolidate its political support ahead of the next governorship election.
As a native of Umunede, Elekaokwuri has roots in one of the prominent communities in Ika North-East, a factor that could be relevant to his assignment of coordinating campaign activities and engaging political stakeholders across the local government area.
His political career includes two terms in the Delta State House of Assembly, where he represented the constituency during a previous administration in the oil-rich state.
His experience in legislative affairs and grassroots politics is expected to feature in his approach to the new assignment, which involves coordinating local campaign structures, engaging party members and maintaining communication among stakeholders supporting the governor’s re-election bid.
The appointment also places him in a position to work with party leaders, community representatives and other political actors in Ika North-East as the APC prepares for the next electoral cycle.
Beyond his political background, Elekaokwuri currently serves as the Director-General of the Delta State Investment Development Agency
The position adds an administrative and development-related dimension to his public service profile, alongside his previous legislative responsibilities.
His experience across politics and public administration provides the background against which his new campaign assignment will be viewed as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, his appointment as campaign coordinator is distinct from his official responsibilities at the state investment agency.
As campaign coordinator, Elekaokwuri is expected to play a role in organising and coordinating political activities within Ika North-East in support of Governor Oborevwori’s second-term ambition.
Such responsibilities typically involve mobilising party structures, facilitating engagement with grassroots supporters, coordinating campaign meetings and strengthening communication between local political stakeholders and the wider campaign council.
The effectiveness of the local campaign structure will depend on its ability to maintain coordination across the area’s communities and wards, while communicating the administration’s policies, projects and priorities to residents.
For Ika North-East, the appointment brings a familiar political figure into a campaign coordination position at a time when party organisations are preparing for the next round of electoral contests.
Governor Oborevwori’s anticipated re-election campaign is expected to bring increased attention to political organisation and stakeholder engagement across Delta State.
As the campaign council establishes its local coordination arrangements, appointments such as Elekaokwuri’s are intended to provide leadership at the local government level and create a structure through which campaign activities can be organised.
The governor’s supporters will be looking to communicate the administration’s record and priorities, while voters will have the opportunity to assess its performance and consider the issues that matter most to their communities.
For Elekaokwuri, the new assignment combines his experience as a former two-term legislator, his grassroots connections in Umunede and Ika North-East, and his political association with the incumbent governor.
