Tinubu Orders Civil Service Audit, Skills Gap Analysis to Drive Public Sector Reform

ABUJA: President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive personnel audit and skills gap analysis across the federal civil service as part of his administration’s broader strategy to boost efficiency and service delivery in Nigeria’s public sector.

The directive was issued on Thursday during the maiden edition of the International Civil Service Conference held in Abuja. Tinubu emphasized that the move is critical to building a more agile and results-driven civil service aligned with his Renewed Hope Agenda.

I have authorized a comprehensive personnel audit and skill gap analysis across the federal civil service to deepen capacity, the President declared. This critical exercise must be completed swiftly to enable targeted reforms that will unlock the full potential of our workforce.

The President also instructed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritize data integrity and sovereignty, in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023.

He stressed the importance of capturing, protecting, and strategically publishing public sector data to allow global benchmarking and strengthen Nigeria’s international standing. We must let our data speak for us.

Verified data assets should be published locally and shared globally to track progress in real time, preserve privacy, and uphold national data sovereignty, Tinubu stated.

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, welcomed the President’s presence and expressed gratitude for his continued support. She noted that the civil service has already begun integrating lessons from study tours to Singapore, the UK, and the US.

Walson-Jack reaffirmed the commitment of her office to the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025 (FCSSIP 25), which focuses on digitization, performance management, and continuous learning.

She assured that civil servants remain committed to ethical leadership, innovation, and citizen-centered governance.

We are determined to exceed expectations by embedding accountability, transparency, and a culture of excellence across all MDAs, she said.

The conference marked a pivotal moment in the push for civil service reform, setting the tone for a new era of productivity, accountability, and national development.
