Former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (2005), Omowunmi Akinnifesi, has shared an intimate account of her personal journey towards self-discovery, faith, and the challenges of staying true to her values in a world that often misinterprets them. In a candid conversation about her decision to remain a virgin, Akinnifesi revealed how the stigma and shame she once felt inspired her to create the Sacred Vessels initiative, aimed at empowering women to rediscover their worth and uphold strong moral values.
In a heartfelt video titled The Walk In Purity on her YouTube channel, Akinnifesi opened up about the struggles she faced in maintaining her commitment. I am starting this initiative because things are very different right now. The way women are, it’s almost as if we don’t understand our value anymore and our morals, she explained. Reflecting on a covenant she made with God at 18, Akinnifesi recalled the personal journey of remaining celibate. People say ‘celibate,’ but I have never done it before. There was nobody there for me. I spent my twenties making mistakes, adjusting, and doing what I knew best, she said.
Akinnifesi went on to share that despite her decision to remain a virgin, she walked in shame for a long time. I was actually very ashamed of it. I had friends that I couldn’t talk to. When I finally spoke to them, they would laugh at me.

She also revealed how rumours about her personal life acted as a painful yet motivating factor for her decision to remain a virgin. Even worse, the stories I would hear about myself… Imagine being okay with negative stories about you, masking something that you thought was going to be an embarrassment. In today’s world, I don’t know how I would have survived it. It was very hard for me, but I did it through the grace of God, she said.
Akinnifesi’s initiative, Sacred Vessels, aims to help women rediscover their value, encourage them to live with integrity, and overcome societal pressures. Through her platform, she hopes to inspire others to stay true to themselves and uphold their morals despite the challenges they may face.
