ABUJA: A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of a man, Sanusi Dankaka, at the Kuje Correctional Centre over allegations that he threatened to publish private photographs and videos of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Facebook.
Justice Salim Ibrahim issued the order on Monday after the defendant was arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) on two counts of alleged cybercrime.
Dankaka, however, pleaded not guilty to both charges.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026, was filed by the DSS on October 22, 2026, through its counsel, Yusuf Afegbua.
The prosecution alleged that the offences were committed in October in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In one of the charges, Dankaka and other persons said to be at large were accused of attempting to circulate allegedly malicious content through a Facebook account identified as Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya.
The DSS alleged that the defendant claimed to possess nude photographs and videos of Governor Yusuf and threatened to make them public.
The prosecution further claimed that the alleged publication was intended to cause annoyance, inconvenience, insult and injury to the governor.
The charges were brought under provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended.
When the case was called, the prosecution informed the court that it was ready to proceed with the arraignment. Defence counsel, Kauna Penzin, also confirmed her readiness for the proceedings.
After the charges were read, Dankaka denied the allegations.
Afegbua subsequently requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendant at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
Justice Ibrahim granted the request and adjourned the case until December 7, 2026, for trial.
Dankaka was consequently ordered to remain in custody pending the next hearing.
The allegations have not been established in court, and the defendant’s plea of not guilty means the case will proceed to trial, where the prosecution will be required to prove its case.
