ABUJA: Vice President Kashim Shettima has questioned Atiku Abubakar’s ability to govern a modern economy, criticising his educational background and proposal to restore the fuel subsidy regime.
Speaking at an event, Shettima accused the former Vice President of advocating a return to the subsidy scheme for political convenience, arguing that governance in the digital age requires the right skills and expertise.
He said Atiku’s training at the Kano School of Hygiene did not equip him with the skills required to manage a modern economy.
That’s the painful truth, Shettima declared, urging Nigerians to make informed decisions when choosing their leaders.
He further questioned Atiku’s knowledge of infectious diseases, saying, Even that certificate in sanitation, I know he will find it difficult to distinguish the difference between flu and COVID, that are airborne disease, and Ebola, that is human-to-human contact ailment.
The Vice President urged Nigerians not to ignore important issues concerning leadership and governance.
Defending President Bola Tinubu’s economic decisions, Shettima said the President made difficult choices because he understood the underlying circumstances.
The President took those painful decisions because he understands the dynamics,he added.
