KANO: The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has ordered the immediate closure of Stephrica Guest Palace Hotel, a popular five-star facility located in Kureken Sani, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, following complaints from residents over alleged suspicious activities.
The directive was issued through the Kano Emirate Council under the leadership of the Galadiman Kano, Aliyu Ibrahim Matawalle, after community members submitted petitions raising concerns about activities at the hotel.
According to sources within the Emirate Council, the decision came after authorities reviewed the complaints and conducted investigations into the allegations.
Residents of Kureken Sani reportedly accused the hotel of hosting suspicious movements involving minors, prompting them to seek the intervention of the traditional institution. The Emirate Council said the action was aimed at preserving peace and addressing the concerns raised by the community.
Chairman of the Kureken Sani Community Development Association, Malam Muhammad Sabi’u Yahaya, praised the intervention, describing it as timely and necessary.
We are grateful to the Emirate Council for listening to our complaints and taking appropriate action after due investigation, he said.
Beyond shutting down the facility, Emir Sanusi reportedly instructed the management of Stephrica Guest Palace Hotel to convert the property into either a hospital or a school to better serve the needs of residents.
The Emirate Council said such a move would provide lasting benefits to the community, particularly in the areas of healthcare and education
The closure has sparked widespread discussions across Kano, with residents awaiting further clarification on how the directive will be implemented and what the future holds for the property.
In a related development, the Emir recently appealed to the European Union to increase support for key sectors in Kano and Nigeria, including education, healthcare and security. He also emphasized the importance of investing in girl-child education as a catalyst for sustainable development.
