Troops Rescue Eight Abducted Wedding Guests in Kano

KANO: Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Brigade have rescued eight out of the 10 people abducted by suspected terrorists during a wedding ceremony in Kano State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at Dabawa in Shanono Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly dressed in military camouflage stormed the event and abducted several guests.

A credible source at Army Headquarters disclosed on Thursday that soldiers who were already positioned near the Yankwada River swiftly responded after receiving a distress alert.

The troops advanced to the area and engaged the fleeing attackers around Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State.

According to the source, the soldiers pursued the suspects along the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis before losing contact with them.

During the operation, eight of the abducted victims identified as young women attending the ceremony were successfully rescued and reunited with their families. Efforts are ongoing to locate and safely recover the remaining two victims.

The military added that security operations have continued in the area to forestall further attacks and ensure the safe return of those still in captivity.
