LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur have dismissed head coach Thomas Frank just eight months after his appointment, following a disappointing run of results that has left the club battling near the Premier League relegation zone.
The decision came shortly after Spurs’ 2–1 home defeat to Newcastle United, a result widely seen as the tipping point for club management.
The loss extended Tottenham’s winless streak in the league and intensified pressure on the Danish manager, whose side has struggled for consistency throughout the season.
Frank won only seven of his 26 league matches in charge, losing 11, with Tottenham slipping to 16th position in the Premier League standings.
The team currently sits just five points above the relegation zone, a situation that has alarmed both supporters and club executives.
A club statement confirmed the development, noting that although Frank had been given time and support to build a competitive squad after his appointment in June 2025, recent performances made a managerial change unavoidable.
The statement praised his professionalism and commitment but concluded that results had not met expectations at a crucial stage of the season.
In addition to domestic league struggles, Tottenham were eliminated early from both major domestic cup competitions.
They exited the FA Cup in the third round after losing to Aston Villa and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the last 16 by Newcastle.
However, the club’s European campaign showed some promise, as Spurs managed a respectable fourth-place finish in the Champions League league phase. Despite this, they failed to translate continental form into domestic success.
Frank had repeatedly pointed to injuries as a major factor affecting performances, noting that several key players were unavailable for extended periods.
He argued that building stability under such circumstances required patience, insisting shortly before his dismissal that he remained confident he was the right man for the job.
The 52-year-old also urged unity among players, management, and supporters, stressing that managerial changes alone rarely solve deeper structural issues within clubs.
Tottenham supporters had grown increasingly frustrated during the club’s poor run. The team had not recorded a league victory since late December, picking up just two points from their last six matches.
During the Newcastle defeat, sections of fans reportedly booed the team and called for managerial change.
Critics also pointed to Spurs’ broader struggles in balancing European competition with domestic league demands a challenge the club has faced for several seasons.
Tottenham are now expected to begin the search for a replacement as they aim to avoid relegation danger and stabilise performances.
Attention will likely focus on securing a manager capable of restoring confidence, improving results quickly, and guiding the club through the remainder of the season.
Frank’s departure continues a trend of managerial turnover in top-flight football, where clubs often act swiftly when results fall short of expectations.
