LAGOS: An associate of popular Nigerian socialite and music promoter Sam Larry, whose real name is Samson Eletu, has dismissed widespread rumours claiming the entertainment figure died following a serious road accident in Lagos.
Speaking on Monday, Akin Abolade, popularly known as Mr Lilgaga, confirmed that Sam Larry survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The clarification comes after social media was flooded with claims that the music promoter had died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
According to Abolade, he spoke directly with Sam Larry shortly after the incident, confirming that he was alive despite the severity of the crash.
“He is alive, not dead. We spoke after the accident happened. I can confirm that he survived,” Abolade said, adding that he could not provide further details about the socialite’s current medical condition.
Reports indicate that the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road in Lagos State. The vehicle carrying Sam Larry reportedly collided with a trailer, leaving the car badly damaged.
Videos circulating on social media showed the wreckage of the vehicle, highlighting the impact of the collision.
The tragic crash reportedly claimed the life of Sam Larry’s security aide, identified simply as Wale, who was said to have died at the scene.
Public concern over the incident increased after comedian and master of ceremonies Mario Wazobia shared posts on Instagram urging fans and well-wishers to pray for the music promoter. He also disclosed that Sam Larry had been taken to a hospital for treatment following the accident.
The incident later sparked speculation online, with several unverified posts claiming that Sam Larry had died or suffered severe leg injuries that could result in amputation.
Responding to those reports, Abolade said he could not confirm claims regarding the extent of the injuries or suggestions that the socialite’s legs might require amputation.
While acknowledging that the crash was serious, he maintained that Sam Larry remains alive and is undergoing treatment.
The accident has generated widespread reactions across social media, with fans, colleagues and supporters expressing relief following confirmation that the entertainment promoter survived the crash while also mourning the reported death of his bouncer.
