Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have reportedly moved their two children to a different school in the United Kingdom over security concerns, just days after the new school year began.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently returned to Britain with their seven-year-old son, Prince Archie, and five-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, after spending several years living in the United States.
British media reports said the family has settled in the Cotswolds, an area in central England popular among celebrities and high-profile personalities.
Harry and Meghan reportedly enrolled both children in a private school, although the name of the institution has not been made public.
According to Hello! Magazine, concerns about the distance between the family’s home and the school, as well as heavy traffic along the route, prompted discussions with their security team.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly said the decision followed consultations with the family’s security team over the practicalities of their existing arrangements.
“The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” the spokesperson told the magazine.
The development comes amid Prince Harry’s renewed efforts to secure police protection for himself and his family while in the UK.
Harry currently relies on private security guards but has been seeking the restoration of publicly funded police protection following a long-running dispute over his security arrangements after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
The prince previously took legal action over the level of security protection he would receive in Britain after losing his automatic entitlement to taxpayer-funded police protection following his departure from royal duties.
Meanwhile, Britain’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as Ravec, reportedly met last week to consider security arrangements for Harry and his family.
The committee is expected to conduct a detailed assessment of the threats facing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and determine what level of protection may be appropriate.
The security review comes as Harry prepares to mark his 42nd birthday on Tuesday.
Despite returning to Britain, Harry and Meghan are not regarded as working members of the British royal family. King Charles III previously made clear that his son and Meghan would not resume official royal duties following their decision to step down in 2020.
The latest school move highlights the security challenges facing the Sussexes as they establish a new life in Britain while attempting to balance family life, privacy and protection.
