Police kill two suspected kidnappers in Delta, recover AK-47

AGBOR: The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the killing of two suspected kidnappers during a security operation in Delta State, as security operatives intensified efforts to curb abductions in parts of the state.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, the operation took place in the Owa Ekei/Boji-Boji Owa axis of Ika North-East Local Government Area after police received intelligence that armed kidnappers were hiding in the area.

Edafe said officers from the Owa-Oyibu Division, working alongside local vigilantes and operatives of Operation Delta Sweep, moved into the bush around Nniogbo in Owa Ekei on Wednesday following the tip-off.

He explained that the suspects allegedly opened fire when they sighted the security team, leading to a gun battle.

During the exchange, two of the suspected kidnappers sustained gunshot wounds. They were later taken to a general hospital in Owa-Alero, where doctors confirmed them dead.

Security personnel reportedly recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 40 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition from the suspects, while a manhunt has been launched for other members of the gang who escaped.

Residents of Owa Ekei, Abavo and neighbouring communities had in recent months raised concerns over repeated kidnapping incidents in the area, with many farmers reportedly abandoning their farms due to fear of attacks.

The police said the latest operation was part of ongoing efforts to restore confidence and improve security in affected communities.
