Police arrest man for hiding pistol inside loaf of bread in Asaba

ASABA: The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, identified as Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, for allegedly hiding a locally made Beretta pistol inside a loaf of bread in Asaba.

The incident occurred around the Koka Roundabout area of the state capital during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on November 6, 2025, at about 8:45 p.m.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect’s suspicious behaviour prompted a thorough search, which led to the discovery of the firearm cleverly concealed in the loaf of bread.

“The Delta State Police Command has once again demonstrated its commitment to proactive policing and intelligence-led operations, Edafe stated.

During the operation, officers recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol carefully hidden inside a loaf of bread.

The suspect, who resides at Ogbeowele Quarters, behind General Hospital, Asaba, was immediately taken into custody.

He added that the recovered weapon has been secured as an exhibit while investigations are ongoing to determine Chibuike’s possible involvement in armed robbery or kidnapping activities within the Asaba metropolis and neighbouring communities.

Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda commended the officers for their vigilance and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to rid the state of crime through sustained intelligence gathering and patrol operations.
