Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has renewed his commitment to protecting residents amid renewed security concerns in parts of the state, declaring that his administration will use every lawful means available to safeguard lives and property.
The governor made the declaration while addressing the 2026 Plateau Annual Convention of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, Northeast Zone, held at the church’s Jos District Headquarters in Gyel, Jos South Local Government Area.
The convention was organised under the theme, Breaking Barriers into Your Next Level.”
Mutfwang’s remarks came against the backdrop of renewed attacks and broader security challenges confronting Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria.
The governor said the responsibility of protecting the people remained central to his administration, stressing that the government would continue working with security agencies to confront perpetrators of violence.
According to him, the state would not surrender to insecurity or allow violence to determine its future. I cannot abandon my responsibility of securing the people of Plateau State. We will protect our people with all that we have, within the ambit of the law, Mutfwang said.
He also expressed confidence in the ability of Nigerians to overcome the country’s security challenges, urging residents to remain united despite the difficulties confronting the nation. Plateau State will not be defeated by violence or the gun, the governor said.
Mutfwang maintained that collective action and unity were necessary to confront the challenges facing the state.
Beyond security, the governor used the occasion to appeal to residents and religious leaders to avoid divisions that could undermine peace and development.
He urged citizens to reject the attitude of pulling one another down, stressing that Plateau’s ability to overcome its challenges depended partly on the willingness of its people to work together.
Mutfwang specifically appealed to Christian leaders to serve as agents of reconciliation and unity, urging them to put aside differences and promote peaceful coexistence.

He called for humility, forgiveness, love and reconciliation, describing them as important values in Christian teaching.
The governor said religious leaders had an important role to play in helping society navigate periods of tension and insecurity.
He urged church leaders to rise above personal differences and provide leadership that would encourage peace, unity and social stability. As Christian leaders, we must rise above our differences. We must put aside bitterness, unforgiveness and arrogance, he said.
Mutfwang added that the state needed leaders and citizens who would embrace reconciliation and work collectively toward its development.
The Plateau governor also spoke about his motivation for entering politics, saying his involvement in public service was driven by a desire to serve God and humanity.
He said his administration would continue pursuing policies and programmes aimed at changing the perception and development trajectory of Plateau State. I went into politics because I wanted to serve God and humanity. We will continue to do everything within our capacity to change the narrative about Plateau State, Mutfwang said.
He added that the government would continue to focus on development across critical sectors while working to improve the welfare of residents.
Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the Assemblies of God Nigeria for their prayers and support for the state.
He also commended the church for its contributions to the spiritual and moral development of society.
The governor noted that the Assemblies of God Nigeria had a history rooted in revival and encouraged the church to continue promoting spiritual renewal and positive values.
Also speaking at the convention, the Executive Council member representing the North East Zone, Rev. Jacob Langs, thanked Governor Mutfwang for attending the event.
Langs acknowledged what he described as the governor’s contributions to the development of Plateau State and the Assemblies of God Nigeria.
He also referred to opportunities and appointments extended to members of the church and the Gyel community under the administration.
Mutfwang’s latest remarks underscore the continued security concerns confronting Plateau State, where communities have experienced deadly attacks and displacement in recent years.
The governor’s administration has repeatedly placed security and the protection of communities among its priorities while calling for cooperation between government, security agencies, religious leaders and residents.
His latest pledge reinforces the position that the Plateau government intends to continue working within the law to protect residents and pursue peace across the state.
