Former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Sunday watched the Nigeria Premier Football League clash between Ikorodu City FC and Enugu Rangers International FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.
Obi was spotted in the stands alongside Ikorodu City FC President, Sanmi Doherty, as the Lagos-based club recorded a 2-0 victory over defending champions Enugu Rangers.
Videos shared on social media showed Obi following the match from the stadium and interacting with people around him during the encounter. Fans also approached the former governor for photographs during the half-time break.
Photographs posted by Obi’s photographer, Esther Umoh, showed him posing with members of the Enugu Rangers team after the match.
Ikorodu City took the lead in the eighth minute through Aderemi Adeoye before Ikechukwu Junior doubled the advantage in the 63rd minute to complete the 2-0 victory for the hosts.
The fixture was the sixth matchday of the 2026/27 NPFL season, with Ikorodu City securing all three points against the defending champions.
The club also acknowledged Obi’s presence through its X account, welcoming him to the Mobolaji Johnson Arena as Ikorodu City hosted Rangers.
Obi’s appearance at the football match came amid preparations by the NDC ahead of the 2027 general election. The party had earlier announced that Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, were authorised to nominate key officials of its Presidential Campaign Council.
