ASABA: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has revealed that no fewer than 306,177 Deltans have directly benefited from the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme, while more than 1.2 million others have been impacted indirectly.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, made this known during the South-South Independent Verification Agents (IVA) Performance Review Meeting, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
He explained that although NG-CARES was initially conceived as an emergency post-COVID-19 intervention, it has since grown into a robust platform for poverty alleviation, economic growth, and social inclusion across Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori highlighted how the programme has supported households, farmers, and small businesses, complementing other state initiatives such as the Widows’ Welfare Scheme and women-focused empowerment grants under his MORE Agenda.
He commended the World Bank, the Federal Government, and other partners for sustaining the initiative, stressing that the IVA performance review was crucial for strengthening accountability and ensuring the programme delivers even greater impact in its next phase.
