LAGOS: Veteran Nollywood actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

The celebrated actor died on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, according to an announcement by his family.

His wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their son announced his death on social media, bringing an end to years of recurring false reports and rumours about the actor’s passing.

The family described Olu Jacobs as the “Lion of Lufodo”, a tribute to his remarkable career and enduring influence in Nigeria’s theatre, film and television industry.

In a statement announcing his death, the family said it was with gratitude to God for a life well lived that they announced the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

The statement identified the actor as Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (MFR) and gave his lifespan as July 11, 1942 – September 16, 2026.
