Olamide Ehinfun-Adekunle Becomes Nigeria’s Youngest Female Senior Advocate at 40

ABUJA: Olamide Mojigbotoluwa Ehinfun-Adekunle has emerged as Nigeria’s youngest female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), earning the prestigious legal rank at the age of 40 in recognition of her professional accomplishments.

Ehinfun-Adekunle was among 68 legal practitioners elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee. She was formally sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, on October 12, 2026, during the opening of the 2026/2027 legal year.

Four women were among the newly elevated legal practitioners, marking another milestone in the representation of women at the highest levels of Nigeria’s legal profession.

Born on June 25, 1986, in Kaduna State, Ehinfun-Adekunle hails from Ijero-Ekiti in Ekiti State.

Her journey into the legal profession began at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where she studied law and obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree between 2003 and 2009.

She subsequently attended the Nigerian Law School from 2009 to 2010 before proceeding to the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, where she earned a Master of Laws degree in International Trade Law between 2011 and 2012.

She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom, reflecting her professional interests in dispute resolution and arbitration.

Before joining the prominent Nigerian law firm Afe Babalola & Co. in September 2013, Ehinfun-Adekunle worked at D. D. Dodo & Co. and the Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation.

She later rose to become a partner at Afe Babalola & Co., where she has handled matters spanning complex litigation, commercial dispute resolution, oil and gas, arbitration, election petitions, transactional law and regulatory compliance.

Her professional experience includes appearances before the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Nigeria, two of the country’s most important judicial institutions.

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee approved her elevation to the SAN rank on July 23, 2026, ahead of her formal inauguration in October.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria title is one of the country’s highest professional distinctions for legal practitioners and is awarded to lawyers who meet rigorous standards of professional excellence and achievement.

Ehinfun-Adekunle’s interest in law reportedly developed during her childhood, influenced by family conversations and stories about Nigeria’s political and legal history.

Her parents reportedly described her as talkative when she was young, a characteristic reflected in her primary school reports.

Stories told by her father about politics in the old Western Region and the legal career of Chief Rotimi Williams, popularly known as “Timi the Law”, helped nurture her interest in the legal profession.

She has also drawn inspiration from prominent legal figures, including Aare Afe Babalola, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, Kehinde Ogunwumiju and Pastor R. A. Ogunwole.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ehinfun-Adekunle has expressed concerns about challenges confronting Nigeria’s justice system, particularly delays in the administration of justice.

She has highlighted the financial burden prolonged litigation places on individuals and businesses, an issue that continues to shape discussions about access to justice and judicial efficiency in the country.

Her concerns reflect broader debates about the need to improve court processes, reduce delays and make legal remedies more accessible to Nigerians.

Ehinfun-Adekunle’s elevation to the SAN rank marks a significant milestone in her legal career and places her among the distinguished practitioners recognised for their contributions to the profession.
