The Abia State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Alex Otti, commending his administration for what it described as deliberate efforts to improve the living standards of residents.
The endorsement was conveyed by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Godwin Adindu, and Assistant Publicity Secretary, Obinna Ibe, during a media briefing at the organization’s state secretariat in Umuahia.
The group stated that its core concerns remain good governance, security of lives and property, and the creation of an enabling environment for Ndigbo to thrive.
After closely monitoring developments over the past three years, the organisation said Abia State has recorded significant progress across key sectors, including:
- Healthcare
- Education
- Road infrastructure
- Civil service reforms
- Urban development
- Ease of doing business
- Power supply
According to the group, these improvements have led to “radical innovations” that continue to enhance the quality of life for residents.
Particular emphasis was placed on the transformation of Aba—popularly known as Enyimba City, which the group described as central to Igbo identity and commerce.
Ohanaeze lauded the governor’s infrastructural renewal efforts in the city, noting that the changes have reinforced its economic and cultural importance.
Governor Otti is today the pride of Ndigbo, as he represents the Igbo spirit of innovation, resilience, and entrepreneurship,” the group stated.
The organisation also credited the Otti administration with:
- Restructuring the civil service
- Ensuring regular payment of workers’ salaries
- Improving the business environment
- Promoting Igbo culture and language in schools
- Strengthening the healthcare system
Despite the commendation, the group clarified that it has not endorsed the governor for a second term.
It, however, reaffirmed its commitment to recognising leaders and individuals who contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the Igbo people and the broader Nigerian society.
