ASABA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the immediate suspension of the Rector and Bursar of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, for six months.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, the governor said the action was necessary to allow for a thorough and impartial investigation into allegations of administrative misconduct and financial irregularities leveled against the officials by the institution’s Governing Council.
The statement also confirmed the earlier suspension of the Registrar by the Polytechnic’s Governing Council.
According to the directive, the Deputy Rector has been appointed Acting Rector for the duration of the suspension, while the most senior officer in the Bursary Department will assume duties as Acting Bursar.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the restoration of confidence in public institutions across the state.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has denied reports suggesting that the recent changes in Nigeria’s military leadership were linked to a coup plot.
In a late Friday statement, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity dismissed the rumour as false, mischievous, and a deliberate attempt to destabilize the country.
The Presidency clarified that the shake-up in the military hierarchy was purely administrative, aimed at strengthening national security and ensuring greater operational efficiency within the Armed Forces.
The statement urged the public to disregard baseless coup speculations and continue to support President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms in defense and governance.
