Nollywood actress Chita Agwu has announced the end of her 11-year marriage after a court legally dissolved the union, urging the public to respect her privacy as she begins a new chapter of her life.
The actress made the announcement in a personal statement on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, describing the development as the close of one chapter and the beginning of another.
Agwu said she had given the decision considerable thought and was prepared to move forward with peace, grace and dignity.
She noted that marriage was a personal journey and acknowledged that not every relationship ends as expected. However, she stressed that individuals should be allowed to move on without facing judgment, ridicule or public humiliation.
After much thought and a deeply personal journey, I wish to officially inform the public that my marriage has been legally dissolved by the court, she stated.
The actress declined to disclose the private circumstances surrounding the divorce, explaining that she would not engage in public discussions about matters involving her former partner.
She appealed to the public to respect the privacy of everyone involved, emphasising the importance of handling the transition with sensitivity and understanding.
Out of respect for everyone involved, I will not be sharing private details or engaging in public discussions about the circumstances surrounding my divorce. I kindly ask that my privacy and that of my former partner be respected,” Agwu said.
She added that her focus was now on healing, personal growth and embracing the future with a positive outlook.
As I begin this new chapter, I choose peace over controversy, healing over bitterness, and growth over public explanations,” she said.
Agwu also expressed appreciation to those who had supported her throughout her personal journey, while reiterating her desire to navigate the transition away from public scrutiny.
The announcement marks the end of her 11-year marriage, with the actress making it clear that she intends to move forward without publicly discussing the circumstances that led to the dissolution of the union.
