NDLEA Foils Cocaine Export Plot Allegedly Orchestrated From Ikoyi Prison

LAGOS: The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted a cocaine shipment allegedly arranged by convicted drug trafficker Olashupo Michael Oladimeji, who is currently serving a five-year jail term at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

Agency spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed that operatives seized about 1.10 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside processed cassava granules (garri) at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The illicit consignment was reportedly being prepared for shipment to London on a Virgin Atlantic flight.

Authorities arrested a logistics employee, Adedeji Yusuf Gbolahan, who allegedly presented the package for export. Investigations suggest the inmate coordinated the operation from prison, directing the suspect to collect the consignment from a location in Lagos.

Oladimeji was previously arrested in 2025 over an attempted export of nearly 18kg of cocaine and was later convicted by the Federal High Court Lagos.

The anti-drug agency says further investigations are ongoing as it works to dismantle the network linked to the foiled trafficking attempt.
