Manchester City kept the Premier League title race alive after cruising to a convincing 3-0 victory over Brentford FC at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
After dropping crucial points in their dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton earlier in the week, Pep Guardiola’s side knew anything short of victory could hand the advantage firmly to league leaders Arsenal FC.
Despite dominating possession, City struggled to break Brentford down in the opening stages. However, Belgian winger Jeremy Doku once again proved decisive, curling home a stunning effort in the 60th minute to finally spark the champions into life.
Erling Haaland doubled the lead with his 26th Premier League goal of the season before Omar Marmoush added a late third to complete an important night for Guardiola’s men.
The victory moves City within two points of Arsenal, although the Gunners still have the chance to tighten their grip on the title race when they face West Ham on Sunday. City also hold a game in hand, ensuring the battle for the Premier League crown remains wide open.
With an FA Cup final against Chelsea FC also on the horizon, Guardiola will hope his side can maintain momentum during a crucial period of the season.
