The wedding of Maria Sol Messi, sister of global football star Lionel Messi, has been postponed after she was rushed to hospital following a serious car accident.
According to reports from Argentina, the 32-year-old sustained multiple injuries in the crash, which reportedly occurred in Miami. Maria Sol is said to have lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a wall, leaving her with spinal fractures and burns.
Argentinian TV journalist Ángel de Brito confirmed that although her condition was serious, she is now out of danger. Speaking on the US television programme LAM, de Brito revealed that Maria Sol was scheduled to get married in Rosario, Argentina, on January 3, but the ceremony has now been suspended due to her health condition.
He explained that her injuries include displaced vertebrae and burns, adding that recovery is expected to take time. Maria Sol has since returned to Rosario, where she has begun a long rehabilitation process.
Her mother, Celia Cuccittini, later provided more details, confirming that Maria Sol suffered fractures to two vertebrae, as well as injuries to her heel and wrist. She also disclosed that the accident may have happened after Maria Sol fainted while driving.
While there have been varying accounts of how the crash occurred, the Messi family has assured the public that the injuries are not life-threatening. As a result of the incident, her wedding to Julián “Tuli” Arellano, who works with Inter Miami’s under-19 coaching staff, has been postponed.
Maria Sol, a fashion designer and entrepreneur, generally keeps a low profile. She previously worked as a brand manager for The Messi Store, the clothing line founded by her brother, alongside Virginia Hilfiger.
The family had been preparing to gather in Rosario for the wedding before the unfortunate accident altered their plans.
