…Proposed gas-powered initiative integrates generation and dedicated distribution networks, starting in the Lekki corridor with a vision for statewide expansion.
Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission,LASERC has hosted an executive delegation from Ibile Power to explore regulatory frameworks and investment opportunities for an integrated electricity generation and distribution project aimed at expanding reliable power supply across Lagos State.
The proposed initiative leverages existing gas infrastructure, scalable generation capacity, and dedicated distribution networks to deliver stable electricity to residential and commercial consumers. The project will begin with an initial pilot along the Lekki corridor, utilising proximity to existing gas pipelines and generation assets, before progressively expanding to residential estates and underserved communities throughout Lagos.
The strategic meeting was led by LASERC Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Temitope George, alongside Executive Member for Engineering and Standards, Engr. Adekunle Olopade, and senior regulatory officials. The Ibile Power delegation was represented by company Directors Mr Tayo Gbajumo, Mr Kayode Anibaba, Mr Faruk Agoro, and Mr Moshood Olajide.
According to Ibile Power, the proposed supply model will feature phased generation capacity matched to localised demand, modern distribution equipment, smart metering systems, and underground cabling where technically and economically viable. The end goal is establishing a scalable, replicated infrastructure framework across the state rather than confining operations to a single corridor.
Welcoming the delegation, LASERC CEO Mrs Temitope George reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to facilitating private sector investment while ensuring full compliance with the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024. She advised Ibile Power to submit the required corporate and technical documentation for formal licensing review, emphasising that while Lekki serves as a practical starting point, future phases must actively include under-resourced communities facing severe supply deficits.
Engr. Adekunle Olopade detailed the core technical criteria under assessment, including grid architecture, network safety, environmental compliance, equipment standards, dynamic fault detection, and long-term commercial sustainability.
Ibili powers reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating closely with LASERC to fulfil all technical, commercial, and regulatory prerequisites, signalling a shared effort to transform energy access and economic activity across Lagos State.
