LAGOS: The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-month traffic diversion along the busy Lekki–Ajah corridor as part of an extensive road rehabilitation project.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the construction will begin Saturday, November 15, 2025, and continue until Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
The project is designed to enhance road quality and ease persistent traffic congestion on the strategic route.
Osiyemi explained that the rehabilitation would be executed in two phases to reduce disruption to daily movement and business activities.
This phase covers seven sections of the expressway. During this period, one lane will be closed while motorists will use the other.
When one side is completed, work will shift to the opposite lane.
The second phase includes four sections of the corridor. Here, traffic from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to a single lane, while work continues on the other. Once completed, the process will be repeated for the remaining lane.
The commissioner assured that despite partial closures, motorists will have continuous access throughout the project.
The Lagos State Government appealed to residents and motorists for patience, emphasizing that the short-term inconvenience would result in smoother traffic and safer roads.
“Motorists are advised to follow traffic directions and cooperate with management personnel on-site, Osiyemi stated.
He added that the project aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for sustainable urban mobility and infrastructure renewal across the state.
The state government urged commuters to plan their trips accordingly and adhere to all traffic management signs during the rehabilitation period.
Earlier in September, rehabilitation work had commenced on the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway, covering the Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge, Ajah another major improvement project within the corridor.
