Lafarge Africa Empowers 100 Persons With Disabilities Through Skills Training in Lagos

Lafarge Africa Plc has trained 100 persons living with disabilities in Lagos under its Disability to Ability (D2A) programme, aimed at improving access to skills development and economic opportunities for people with disabilities.

The initiative, themed Ability Reimagined, was carried out in collaboration with Tunde Onakoya, the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, and the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs.

The company said the programme was designed to support inclusion by equipping participants with vocational skills that can help them achieve financial independence. Beneficiaries received hands-on training in areas such as laptop and phone repairs, makeup and gele styling, wig and braids making, as well as shoe and bag production.

The graduation ceremony was held at Sheba Centre in Maryland, Lagos, where participants from training hubs in Ikeja and Ikorodu celebrated the completion of the programme.

Speaking at the event, representatives of the Lagos State government commended the partnership, describing it as a practical example of how collaboration between the public and private sectors can expand opportunities for vulnerable groups.

One of the beneficiaries, Funmilayo Idowu, who trained in laptop and phone repairs, expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying it had given her the confidence and tools to become self-reliant.

According to Lafarge Africa, the programme reflects its commitment to inclusive growth and social impact, noting that creating access to training and empowerment can help unlock the potential of persons with disabilities across Nigeria.
