Kwankwasiyya Movement Endorses Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance Under NDC

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has formally backed the emerging political alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement shared on X on Friday, the movement described the partnership as a potentially transformative political development capable of reshaping Nigeria’s opposition landscape and promoting national unity.

The group noted that the alliance had received widespread support from Nigerians across regional, religious and political divides, despite criticism from sections of the northern political establishment.

According to the statement, some critics appeared uncomfortable with the national influence the Obi-Kwankwaso partnership could command if consolidated ahead of the next presidential election.

“What appears to be troubling certain interests is not merely the possibility of political cooperation, but the enormous national potential such an alliance represents,” the statement said.

The movement argued that the partnership could bridge long-standing regional divisions within opposition politics, combining Kwankwaso’s strong grassroots structure in northern Nigeria with Obi’s popularity among youths, urban voters and many southern Nigerians.

It described Kwankwaso’s political relevance as one built over years of active political engagement and grassroots mobilisation rather than media influence or access to federal power.

“His political relevance is not manufactured by media houses or sustained by access to federal power. It is rooted in years of service, grassroots connection, and the trust of millions of Nigerians,” the statement added.

The group also criticised what it described as attempts to undermine Kwankwaso’s political standing through “elite propaganda and personality attacks,” insisting that Nigerians were increasingly demanding issue-based politics, credible leadership and national inclusion.

According to the movement, the Obi-Kwankwaso alignment reflects growing public interest in a broader coalition capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic, security and governance challenges.

The statement further called on political commentators and stakeholders to promote fairness and maturity in political discourse, stressing that democracy thrives on coalition-building, inclusion and healthy competition rather than hostility and divisive narratives.

The development comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with the NDC gradually emerging as a platform attracting opposition figures seeking a united front against the ruling establishment.
