INEC Opens Online Pre-Registration for Voters Ahead of 2027 Elections

ABUJA:The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially launched the online pre-registration of voters, marking the first phase of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement posted on X, INEC encouraged eligible Nigerians to begin their registration through the dedicated portal, www.cvr.inecnigeria.org. The online process will allow prospective voters to submit their personal details, select preferred polling units, and schedule appointments for in-person verification.

According to the commission, applicants can also use the platform to request transfers of polling locations, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and correct errors in personal information.

INEC further disclosed that physical registration will commence on August 25, 2025, across its 37 state offices and 774 local government area (LGA) offices nationwide. The exercise will later be extended to additional registration centres, depending on security assessments and logistical considerations.

The commission emphasized that the CVR is open to Nigerians aged 18 and above, particularly first-time voters, while warning against multiple registrations, noting that offenders will face sanctions.

INEC assured that the registration will run for several months, after which a preliminary voter register will be published for public scrutiny before finalizing the official list of eligible voters for the 2027 polls.

The electoral body urged citizens to take advantage of the opportunity, stressing that voter registration is fundamental to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy through inclusive participation.
