A 20-year-old woman in Haryana’s Nuh district allegedly died by suicide after facing repeated blackmail and mental harassment linked to an alleged gang rape video, according to police and family members.
The victim’s family accused four youths from the same village of gang-raping the young woman and recording the assault. They alleged that the suspects continuously threatened to release the video online, leading to severe emotional trauma and fear of public humiliation.
Police said the woman took the extreme step on Tuesday night following months of alleged intimidation and blackmail.
Authorities confirmed that an FIR has been registered at the Bichhor police station based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family. Investigators have launched a detailed probe into the incident.
According to police officials, special teams, including cybercrime investigators, are working to trace the origin and circulation of the alleged video, determine who accessed it, and establish how long the blackmail had been taking place.
Inspector Rajbir Singh, SHO of Bichhor police station, said the victim’s body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination. He added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused persons.
