PORTHARCOURT: Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially resumed duty following the end of the six-month emergency rule imposed on Rivers State, promising to unite political stakeholders and prioritize inclusive governance for peace and development.
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, September 19, 2025, Fubara described the period of emergency rule declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18 as enormously challenging for the state but necessary to restore order amid the political crisis.
He noted that despite pressure, he refrained from challenging the constitutionality of the declaration, choosing instead to cooperate with the President and the National Assembly. According to him, no sacrifice was too great to secure peace, stability, and progress of Rivers State.
The governor disclosed that President Tinubu successfully brokered reconciliation between him, former governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, allowing all parties to “bury the hatchet and embrace peace.

The political crisis is now behind us, and peace and stability have once again returned to Rivers State. The responsibility now rests squarely on us government, lawmakers, political leaders, and stakeholders to put aside differences and advance the interests of our people, he stated.
Fubara expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for what he described as fatherly intervention and reaffirmed his loyalty to the President.
He also acknowledged the roles played by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, the National Assembly, and the Rivers State House of Assembly in resolving the political impasse.
Addressing fears and doubts over the peace process, he reassured Rivers people that “nothing has been irretrievably lost and urged them to embrace the reconciliation as a fresh start. The costliest peace is cheaper than the cheapest war, he emphasized.
On governance, the governor pledged to accelerate development projects in infrastructure, healthcare, and education, ensuring that no initiative would be abandoned.
