Firefighters Withdraw From Petrol Tanker Fire in Minna Over Water Shortage

Firefighters have withdrawn from the scene of a petrol-laden tanker fire in Minna, Niger State, citing a lack of adequate water and firefighting chemicals as the blaze intensified.

The incident occurred on Saturday along the Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Western Bypass, near Mandela Junction, close to the National Examinations Council (NECO) office, the Niger State House of Assembly and the state secretariat.

Sources told Sahara that the tanker had just departed the NNPC Mega Station when it caught fire, prompting the driver to move it out of the filling station to prevent a larger explosion.

Both federal and state firefighting teams were later forced to vacate the scene after complaining of insufficient water supply and firefighting materials to contain the blaze.

The tanker driver sustained partial injuries in the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had not been determined, while authorities continued to monitor the situation amid safety concerns.
