KADUNA: The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed as fake a viral letter circulating on social media and purportedly signed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his son, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, on behalf of the family, the document titled Urgent Message and dated July 14, 2026, was described as a fabrication with no connection to the former governor.
According to the statement, the letter, allegedly addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, did not originate from El-Rufai and should be ignored by the public.
The former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, CON, wishes to alert the public that a fake letter is in circulation, purported to have been signed by him, titled Urgent Message.
The spurious letter purportedly dated July 14, 2026, and addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, should be disregarded, the statement said.
The family further maintained that neither the handwriting nor the content of the document belonged to El-Rufai, describing it as a calculated attempt to mislead party members and the general public.
Neither the poor content nor the handwriting has anything to do with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. The fake letter shows another resort to desperation by Mallam’s traducers who seek to sow confusion and division. Their attempt at politics by fakery should be dismissed and condemned. It is an instance of the most primitive politics and its sponsors should be ashamed of themselves, the statement added.
The controversial letter, which gained traction on social media, reportedly questioned the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC governorship candidate for Kaduna State.
It alleged that Ashiru failed to complete the party’s online membership registration before the April 30, 2026, deadline, claiming this violated the party’s constitutional requirements and had generated internal tension within the ADC. The letter also called on the party’s national and state leadership to intervene and review the nomination process.
However, El-Rufai’s family insisted that the document was entirely fabricated and urged Nigerians, party supporters, and members of the public not to attach any credibility to its contents.
The development comes amid heightened political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties increasingly facing internal disputes and misinformation campaigns circulating across digital platforms.
The family reiterated that any official communication from the former Kaduna governor would be released through his recognised channels, warning the public against relying on unverified documents shared on social media.
