BENINI-CITY: The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development joins the global community in commemorating the 2026 International Day of Families with the theme: Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing.
Hon. Eugenia Abdullah, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development stated this in her press statement, adding that year’s theme draws attention to the growing inequalities confronting families across the world and the direct impact these challenges have on the wellbeing, protection, education, and future of children.
It also highlights the urgent need for stronger family-oriented policies and social protection systems that support healthy child development and promote equal opportunities for all.
“Families remain the foundation of every society and play a critical role in nurturing responsible, productive, and compassionate citizens. However, many families today continue to face economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity, rising cost of living, limited access to healthcare and education, as well as other social challenges that affect the stability and wellbeing of children”, she explained.
The Edo State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, remains committed to policies and programmes that strengthen family life, protect vulnerable children, promote social inclusion, and improve access to welfare services for women, children, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups in society.
As we mark this important day, the Ministry calls on parents, caregivers, community leaders, civil society organizations, religious bodies, and development partners to continue working together to create safe, supportive, and nurturing environments where every child can thrive regardless of social or economic background”, she stressed.
The Ministry further emphasizes that investing in families is an investment in national development. Strong families build strong communities and ultimately a stronger society.
The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development remains steadfast in its mandate to promote the welfare, dignity, and protection of families across the State”, the Commissioner emphatically declared.
